Electricity and Vitality
With the aim of building a nuclear power plant, Hanhikivi 1, Fennovoima was founded in 2007 by a group of Finnish electricity consumers: industrial companies and energy utilities in need of safe, stable-priced and reliable low carbon electricity generation. Fennovoima has two direct owners (Voimaosakeyhtiö SF and RAOS Voima) and we employ some 300 people.
Fennovoima's Hanhikivi 1 project – with its 1200 MW electricity output – is a significant contribution to the energy security of Finland and the entire EU. It also supports other EU objectives by stimulating Finland's and Europe's economy, generating jobs and facilitating climate protection. The project is based on local and regional support.
The project is now in licensing phase. The construction of the Russian AES- 2006 power plant is to start in 2018 and commercial operation in 2024.
