Ethical principles
1 Safety as the overriding priority
Safety is the overriding priority for a nuclear power company. All individuals have a right to safety. A work community with the highest possible safety culture is an absolute requirement for Fennovoima.
A healthy and positive workplace is a source of strength for all employees, and creates benefits for families, friends and colleagues. At Fennovoima, it is the responsibility of the entire personnel to foster mental well-being and to increase occupational safety. Company management in particular has to set a good example by cultivating fairness, and conducting open and interactive communications.
Attitudes, patterns of behavior and skills affecting safety are constantly monitored and improved. Breaches of general or internal regulations are not accepted or tolerated at Fennovoima.
2 Human dignity
Human beings should be treated equally and fairly irrespective of age, gender, political or other views, religious beliefs, nationality, or ethnic origin. Fennovoima respects human dignity and diversity, and condemns discrimination and intolerance of all kinds.
Fennovoima complies fully with Finnish labor legislation and regulations. Moreover, Fennovoima supports international labor treaties, and condemns forced and child labor. There is freedom of association at Fennovoima.
3 Our planet for the future
Our planet does not exist just for today’s population or ecosystem. Human beings have a responsibility to safeguard the conditions for life and biodiversity for future generations as well. Fennovoima strives in all of its operations to achieve sustainable human, ecological, social and economic development. The operations of Fennovoima must not cause damage to the environment.
Fennovoima supports expanding international cooperation to fight against climate change and to enhance global environmental protection. At Fennovoima, environmental factors play a key role in making operational decisions. Fennovoima uses the best available and feasible technology to restrict and reduce the burden its operations cause on the environment.
4 Good corporate citizenship
Agreement on mutually binding rules is a precondition for the success of communities and individuals. Fennovoima observes the laws of Finland and other regulations, and complies with the agreements and commitments it has undertaken. Fennovoima condemns corruption and bribery, and complies strictly with competition legislation. In particular, it is important that in their actions Fennovoima’s employees and members of the Board of Directors serve the company’s interests and not their personal goals in any way whatsoever.
Fennovoima recognizes its corporate responsibility towards the local communities it operates in, Finnish society and the entire global community. As a good corporate citizen, Fennovoima participates in the activities of local communities and of the entire nation; above all, by contributing to economic well-being through its power generation.
5 Ethical practices
To ensure full compliance with Fennovoima’s ethical principles, the following actions take place:
• The Board of Directors entrusts the CEO with formulating and implementing the necessary practices to safeguard the company’s compliance with these principles
• Each company function and employee is responsible for the operational compliance with the principles, and effective internal communications and training are crucial tools for achieving this
• Fennovoima conducts an active dialogue on ethical issues with its stakeholders and the rest of Finnish society
• The Board of Directors monitors Fennovoima’s ethical performance at least once a year, based on the CEO’s annual corporate responsibility report
