1 Corporate social responsibility reflects ethics
The operations of Fennovoima are guided by its ethical principles of safety, human dignity, sustainable development, and good corporate citizenship.
For Fennovoima, corporate social responsibility includes economic, environmental and social aspects, and their impacts on the company's stakeholders.
Responsibility in corporate social issues is a precondition for safeguarding the sustainable success of Fennovoima’s operations.
2 Goals of Fennovoima corporate social responsibility
Corporate social responsibility is an integral part of all Fennovoima operations, activities and decision-making. Balance in economic, environmental and social responsibility issues is sought. Compliance with laws forms the basis of Fennovoima’s actions. Fennovoima continuously seeks to improve its corporate social responsibility performance.
Fennovoima’s goal is that its business partners, subcontractors and suppliers become familiar with its corporate social responsibility principles, and that they follow similar standards.
To enhance transparency, Fennovoima strives for a continuous, systematic and open dialogue on corporate social responsibility issues with key stakeholders, such as shareholders, employees, suppliers, and authorities and non-governmental organizations.
3 Economic responsibility
3.1 Business conduct
Fennovoima’s task is to produce electricity for its shareholders at production cost. The company delivers this commitment by developing and maintaining safe and efficient operations based on ethical business practices. Fennovoima applies principles of good corporate governance and transparent accounting.
This means that:
• Fennovoima’s governance principles are transparent, and the roles and responsibilities of corporate bodies are clearly defined
• Fennovoima condemns unlawful competition measures. Personnel receive training to make them knowledgeable about applicable competition laws and policies
• Misconduct and bribery are absolutely unacceptable. Gifts offered or received by Fennovoima personnel must be modest in economic value
3.2 Relationship with Finnish society
Fennovoima’s operations have economic impacts nationally and on the local communities in which the company operates. Fennovoima contributes to the community well-being through paying taxes, through direct and indirect employment, and other measures of active community involvement.
This means that:
• Fennovoima participates actively and openly in the life of communities where it operates
• Fennovoima conducts open, factual, honest, fast and active communications towards the surrounding society and its stakeholders
• Fennovoima supports research and development related to its field of industry and maintains close co-operation with educational institutes
• Fennovoima may make donations to various charitable projects and events in line with its ethical principles
• Fennovoima does not support any political or religious organizations
4 Environmental responsibility
Fennovoima is strongly committed to becoming a world-class producer of nuclear power, and to minimize the negative impacts of its operations on the surrounding environment.
This means that:
• Fennovoima applies the most modern technology to ensure that all emissions
- in particular, radioactive emissions - into the air, water and soil are well below all official standards
• Fennovoima optimizes its use of energy to improve energy efficiency
• Fennovoima optimizes water consumption in its processes
• In order to minimize the production of waste - in particular, radioactive waste - Fennovoima continuously improves its processes
5 Social responsibility
5.1 Human rights
Fennovoima treats people in an equal and fair manner regardless of age, gender, political or other views, religious beliefs, nationality, or ethnic origin. Fennovoima respects human dignity and diversity, and condemns discrimination and intolerance of all kinds.
This means that:
• Fennovoima encourages its personnel to value diversity and different cultures
• Freedom of association prevails at Fennovoima
• Fennovoima supports in its corporate social responsibility activities organizations and projects aimed at improving human rights locally, nationally and globally
5.2 Safety and health
Fennovoima is committed to providing its employees with a healthy and safe working environment. The health of its personnel and their well-being at work are important preconditions for Fennovoima’s success in day-to-day and long-term operations.
This means that:
• Fennovoima makes use of the best expertise available in the areas of occupational health and safety
• Fennovoima continuously develops its procedures and practices concerning health and safety
• Fennovoima does not allow the use of narcotics at any operational level
5.3 Personnel development
Continuous development of its personnel is the core of Fennovoima’s human resources policy. Competent and motivated people are essential to Fennovoima’s success.
This means that:
• Fennovoima provides continuous training and competence development for its personnel
• Fennovoima encourages its personnel to individual development in various fields of life

In addition to this document, Fennovoima's corporate social responsibility is defined in public statements, as well as internal policies and instructions.
7 Corporate social responsibility practices
To ensure full compliance with Fennovoima’s corporate social responsibility principles, the following actions take place:
• The Board of Directors entrusts the CEO with formulating and implementing the necessary practices to safeguard the company’s compliance with these principles
• Effective internal communications and training are crucial tools for achieving this
• Fennovoima's personnel are required to comply with the requirements of this statement, and with the laws and regulations of Finland
• Fennovoima conducts an active dialogue on corporate social responsibility issues with its stakeholders
• Fennovoima's Board of Directors monitors Fennovoima’s corporate social responsibility performance at least once a year
• Fennovoima reports its corporate social responsibility performance annually (as of 2008), based on the principles of the Global Reporting Initiative
• In Fennovoima, Communications is responsible for corporate social responsibility issues
