Fennovoima's Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant will be built on Hanhikivi peninsula in Northern Finland.
Hanhikivi peninsula is located in the northern part of the municipality of Pyhäjoki, approximately seven kilometers from the centre of Pyhäjoki. The northeast part of the peninsula extends up to the town of Raahe. Center of Raahe is approximately 20 kilometers away.
The area is sparsely populated and there are no permanent residents. Some summer cottages are on the shore.
Within a 5 kilometer radius from the nuclear power plant live some 150 people or 450 people including all Parhalahti village residents.
Land Use Planning
Building a nuclear power plant requires changes in land use plans of the area. For Fennovoima's Hanhikivi 1 plant these changes have been made for all three levels: regional land use plan, local master plan and local detailed plan.
