Fennovoima acquires land in Olkiluoto
14.12.2007

Finnish energy company Fennovoima has leased a parcel of land in Olkiluoto.

Fennovoima has leased a parcel of land of some 24 hectares, known as the ”Lastenmaa” property, on Olkiluoto Island in the municipality of Eurajoki in Western Finland, from a private person. The contract also gives Fennovoima the rights to buy the land.

The property is located close to the final repository for spent fuel planned by Posiva Oy. It is situated next to the areas controlled by Teollisuuden Voima Oy (TVO).

In the partial master plan under preparation in the Olkiluoto area, the property is reserved mainly for energy production designed for the final disposal facility of nuclear waste.

Fennovoima continue to strive for negotiations with Posiva on the final disposal of the nuclear waste, which Fennovoima will produce in its planned nuclear power plant.

Fennovoima is prepared to assign the piece of land for the use in the Finnish national solution for the spent nuclear fuel.
