Today, February 20th, the Ministry of Employment and the Economy has submitted its statement on the environmental impact assessment report of Fennovoima. The statement of the contact authority concludes the EIA procedure started by Fennovoima in January 30th 2008. Fennovoima completed the EIA procedure in three alternative sites, Pyhäjoki, Ruotsinpyhtää and Simo. Fennovoima assigned implementation of the EIA process to Pöyry Energy Oy.
The Ministry states that the EIA report meets the content requirements set in the legislation and has been handled in the manner required under the regulations in force. Many of the some 80 statements given to the contact authority by other authorities find the report comprehensive and competent, as does the Ministry regardless of the clarifications required.
Fennovoima will deliver further clarifications required by the Ministry according to the schedule. Most of them are required before April 9th 2009.
Fennovoima’s project now advances into the statement phase of the Decision-in-Principle process. The Ministry of Employment and the Economy requests statements from the municipal councils of the alternative sites, Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, several different ministries, and other authorities and communities.
