Talouselämä business magazine reports that 16 local and regional electricity companies have established a joint enterprise Suomen Voima. The new company consists of nine companies operating mainly in Satakunta area and seven companies operating in south-eastern Finland.

The ambitious mission of Suomen Voima is to get its shareholders several hundred megawatts of renewable or low emission electricity production capacity during the next decades. For this purpose, the company is going to invest hundreds of millions of euros.

CEO of Suomen Voima is Akke Kuusela. He says the companies that have established Suomen Voima are too small to construct alone for example big bio power plants.

The shareholders of Suomen Voima have some 300 000 customers altogether and the total amount of electricity the companies acquire yearly is more than 3 TWh. This is some 4 per cent of Finland’s total electricity consumption.

Akke Kuusela says that it is important for the shareholders that they can be increasingly self-sufficient in electricity supply. In the press release of Suomen Voima, Mr Kuusela states that this target is to be reached by constructing new power plants and by acquiring new shares in power production.

The local companies will continue their business operations normally and will keep selling electricity to their own customers. The shareholders of Suomen Voima hava shares in for example Pohjolan Voima, Fennovoima, Jyväskylän Voima and Kanteleen Voima. All their capacity or shares are not to be transferred to Suomen Voima.

Suomen Voima shareholders have a share of some 8 per cent in Fennovoima. Talouselämä reports that this amount makes Suomen Voima the third biggest shareholder of Fennovoima.

Shareholders of Suomen Voima are Etelä‐Savon Energia Oy, Haminan Energia Oy, Keravan Energia Oy, Kokemäen Sähkö Oy, KSS Energia Oy, Köyliön‐Säkylän Sähkö Oy, Lammaisten Energia Oy, Lankosken Sähkö Oy, Leppäkosken Sähkö Oy, Mäntsälän Sähkö Oy, Nurmijärven Sähkönmyynti Oy, Paneliankosken Voima Oy, Porvoon Energia Oy – Borgå Energi Ab, Sallila Energia Oy, Vatajankosken Sähkö Oy and VSV-Energiapalvelu Oy.
