Helsingin Sanomat reports that Simo’s municipal manager Esko Tavia and Kemi’s city manager Ossi Repo were pleased about Parliament’s nuclear power decision. According to the paper, the sentiments were high at Fennovoima local office in Simo after the final results were published.

After getting the voting result, a bottle of champagne was popped and Repo threw a high-five with Fennovoima’s regional coordinator Minna Palosaari.

Mr Repo pointed out that this is one step in a long process. Helsingin Sanomat noted that there were no opponents around and for those at the office, the main issue was jobs in the municipality: the power plant will employ thousands of people in the construction phase and hundreds when in operation.
