IAEA: Nuclear safety management working well in Finland

IAEA reports that the nuclear safety management in Finland is mainly working as supposed to according to Tekniikka&Talous. The report states that the cooperation of Finnish nuclear power plants, the Police and the Border Guard is functioning well. Also, the registration of radioactive sources is working well.

According to IAEA, Finland needs to improve regulations of authorities: they should be updated to match the renewed legislation. According to the report, the audits are sometimes not sufficient enough: the quality is good but there are not enough audits.

The Ministry of Employment and the Economy of Finland ordered the evaluation (International Physical Protection Advisory Service) concerning Finland’s nuclear safety management from IAEA. The final report of is to be ready in autumn 2009.
