Mauri Pekkarinen, Minister of Economic Affairs, says that the Ministry of Employment and the Economy has not yet taken a stand on how many nuclear power licences will be given. According to the news of the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE, Mr Pekkarinen is waiting for the more detailed estimations regarding the consumption of electricity before making a proposition. The Minister estimates decisions to be made possibly in November.
The Director General of the Ministry's Energy Department has said to the national paper Turun Sanomat that the Ministry proposes that one applicant of the three will get a licence. Mr Pekkarinen stresses that this position is not the stand of the Ministry or of the Minister himself but just Mr Turunen's own view.
According to Mr Pekkarinen, it is appropriate to estimate how many licences will be given only after the demand forecasts for the year 2020 and time after that are cleared.
The Minister says the number of licences is probably to be estimated in the period between the end of October and the end of November.
