More than half of Swedes support nuclear power

Helsingin Sanomat, leading Finnish daily paper, writes that more than half of Swedes are in favour of nuclear power. According to a recent poll, 52 per cent of Swedes want to keep the existing nuclear power plants operating and replace reactors with new ones after they are taken from use. 22 per cent are in favour of constructing new nuclear power and 45 per cent would give up nuclear power.

In the poll it was also inquired what the respondents regard as the best form of energy production in perspective of both employment and environment. Nuclear power gained most popularity, 26 per cent. Right after nuclear power were followed wind power and hydro power, which gained support of 21 per cent and 18 per cent.

The poll was made by research institute Sifo for the Swedish industry interest group SKGS. 1500 people answered the poll.
