Daily business paper Kauppalehti reports that the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) thinks the Government should give a licence for all three nuclear power plant applicants.

Sakari Tamminen, Chairman of the Confederation, says that Finland needs plenty of new electricity production capacity in the next decades because electricity importing must be replaced with own production, old plants are taken out of operation and the demand is growing.

Mr Tamminen states that a chance to build nuclear power plant should be given to all who are willing to make the investment as this would build up confidence in the future. He hopes that the international climate pact that is currently being drafted will help environmentally friendly technology to spread and slow down climate change.

Sakari Tamminen thinks Finland needs energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and nuclear power. The chairman presented his views on Thursday at EK’s energy and climate seminar.
