Olli-Pekka Pirilä Oversees the Occupational Safety at the Site
When Fennovoima was considering its plant site alternatives in Pyhäjoki and Simo, Olli-Pekka Pirilä from Oulu saw an opportunity to join a unique project close to home. Olli-Pekka started as an occupational safety manager at Fennovoima in the fall of 2014, around the time when the construction work of the project was first set in motion in Hanhikivi with felling trees from the road line – that is, when it all began.
In his studies for his master’s degree in the field of process technology, Olli-Pekka focused on the management of safety at work. Extensive special expertise is required for the job, and over the years, Olli-Pekka has acquired further qualifications from a wide variety of training courses. In the Fennovoima project, he holds the position of a statutory safety coordinator who ensures that the occupational safety obligations of the client are fulfilled within the construction project.
Olli-Pekka considers it important that Fennovoima's project brings life and prosperity to the Jokilaakso region; it also gives him an opportunity to observe and participate in the various phases of a major project right from the start. The immense scale and early stage of the project have, however, thrown many challenges into his path at work. Still, he enjoys seeing the results of his own hard work spring to life.
Olli-Pekka has nothing but praise for the team spirit prevailing in the Helsinki headquarters and particularly in the Pyhäjoki local office. The close working community in the Pyhäjoki office creates a sense of belonging.View Olli-Pekka Pirilä’s profile
